i've tumbled

I guess I've been feeling like I just don't spend enough time online recently.  To remedy that, I've started a tumblr blog.  What am I thinking?

Here are six reasons you should go take a peek:
1.  a lot of pretty pictures
2.  less (er...none) of my clumsy writing
3.  you will be inspired
4.  it's (mostly) stuff you haven't seen here
5.  a regularly updated smattering of ocular delights
6.  it will make you more attractive*

Okay, so number 5 is pretty much the same as number 1 but with more words.  I think we can all agree that the use of the words smattering and ocular in the same sentence more than makes up for that little snafu.

*This statement has not been evaluated by the FDA or any other governmental agency**, to my knowledge.

**All the more reason to check it out.

the best things are free

Earlier today I promised A a trip to the library if she would just please take her nap. I tried to make good, but when we got there it was just closing. (Important side note: does five o'clock seem like an unusually early library closing time to anyone else?). Obviously, our entire evening was on the brink of ruin, when, on the walk home, the most miraculous thing happened. We stumbled upon a book in a bag. (And that's not even the most miraculous part! Read on!). Naturally, I hastened to pick it up, and what happened next delights me to no end. I found a note, and this is what it said:   FREE BOOK! Take me home!

Well, you can bet I didn't need to be told twice. After arriving home with said book, I found another little note inside directing me to this website. Turns out, there is a whole community of people leaving their used books around for someone to find and take home. I already can't wait to set this one loose again, but I will (of course) read it first.

This is the book I got. Hooray for me!

And, because posts without pictures can be boring, here are some pig's feet. They're a little bit dirty:

gratuitous family photo post

A couple months ago R and I woke up and realized we hadn't had any real family photos taken since way before Ava came along. Since we already felt a little bit bad about holding off for the first three years of her life, we decided to get on it post haste. Luckily, we know a photographer who happened to be willing to give us a good deal (as in free), and jumped at the chance. These are just a few of my favorites.

All photos were taken by Jon Popovich. He has a blog and a flickr, and if you live in Hawaii (or want to travel for photos), I must recommend that you get in touch with him.

p.s. Speaking of family photos, have you seen this website yet?

There's been some great vintage hitting the shop this week, and our big birthday sale (20% off...that's right) is still on to boot. Get thee hence!

52 weeks update

Julie and I are a little more than halfway through our 52 weeks project, and I could not be more pleased with the results. This is what they look like so far.

For anyone who missed the original explanation, here's another: Julie and I are friends. We live really far away from each other. Really, really far. We take photos. We like each others photos. We decided to collaborate. Every week we each post one of our photos to our respective flickr accounts. Neither of us knows what the other is posting until we see it at the end of the week. We like surprises. The surprise images are then placed one on top of the other making a really great diptych that tells a really incredible story. We're just not sure what that is yet. At the end of the year, we'll see.

Some of my favorite combinations:  2/52, 14/52, 18/52, 21/52, 24/52

birthday party

Monday marks the second birthday of Goodwiu Vintage.  Julie and I could not be more pleased, and to celebrate we'll be having huge sales all week long (hooray!). However, you lucky blog readers can get an early jump on the action with a steep discount starting this weekend! By steep I mean 35% off any purchase from the shop. That's big, right?  Yeah, and get this - the discount applies to your entire order no matter the size.

So, here's the deal - visit Goodwiu Vintage (just click this link here) and purchase something (anything) anytime on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday; mention this blog post in the message to seller at checkout; sit back and wait for a revised paypal invoice. Easy peasy!

oh dear

There was an incident this morning involving my wedding ring, a little blonde girl and the drain in the bathroom sink. I'm not sure if we'll be able to get it out, but I suppose I wouldn't be too heartbroken if we can't. It was a custom job that didn't turn out the way I had wanted anyway. Here are a few options to use as inspiration for a new ring...you know...just incase.

lazy lately

a list of things I should be doing:
  • photographing vintage goods for the shop
  • sorting the remaining unpacked boxes from our move a year ago
  • repairing a broken pair of earrings for my mother
  • purchasing plane tickets
a list of things I am doing:Bleh. This debilitating lack of motivation is due to equal parts stifling summer heat and my own nature. Procrastination seems to be a family specialty.

p.s. It seems a June trip to Bangladesh was not in the cards for R after all. Woot!

epic summer

a three month plan:
  • see R off to Bangladesh
  • mother/daughter days at the pool
  • a goodwiu birthday bash
  • fireworks every Friday
  • small condo renovations

  • big condo renovations
  • off to Utah to visit my family
  • mini road trips with whoever will come
  • visit Yellowstone for the first time
  • attend a friend's wedding
  • ice cream and homemade root beer

  • to the beach since I'll miss it while I'm away
  • a visit from a nomadic friend
  • hiking, biking, loving, relaxing
  • make something...anything
